About Operation Double Harvest – Haiti

Christian business man, Aart Van Wingerden (now deceased), began Operation Double Harvest in Haiti in 1981 with the purpose of establishing an agricultural project that would reap an increase in the harvest from the land as well as a spiritual harvest of souls for the Kingdom of God.

The poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti was chosen to “help people help themselves”, to instill a Christian work ethic, and to model business conduct with high integrity. In short, he had a vision to “Sow Seeds of Life” in an impoverished situation. Located in the Caribbean Sea, Haiti occupies the western one third of the island of Hispaniola and is approximately 650 miles southeast of Florida and 60 miles southeast of Cuba. The Operation Double Harvest project is located approximately one-half hour east of Port-au-Prince, near the town of Croix des Bouquets.

Through Double Harvest, Inc., his family, friends, and associates continue to support and subsidize the 200 acre project consisting of a farm and the other resulting ministries: a school with a Sponsor a Child program, a medical/surgical clinic, and a benevolent housing project. Operation Double Harvest is registered in Haiti and operates under the Haitian government guidelines for Non-Government Organizations (NGOs).

Statement of Faith

We believe:

The Bible to be the only complete and perfect word of God to man.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16

In one triune God who is: God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
“When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.” (Jesus speaking) John 15:26
“I and the Father are one.” John 10:30

Man is a sinner needing God’s intervention for salvation from pending condemnation.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.

Salvation from sin’s consequences must be through faith in Jesus Christ.
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

Salvation is a gift of God and cannot be earned.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Proclaiming Christ in word and deed is a command and a privilege.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

Double Harvest – “Sowing Seeds of Life”

Our Mission:

Double Harvest is a Christian ministry that desires to magnify Christ by ministering to the spiritual and physical needs of people in developing countries. “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?” (1 John 3:17)

Double Harvest understands that people’s deepest need is a spiritual one, a changed life through faith in Jesus Christ. As a Christian ministry, Double Harvest also seeks to model Christ’s compassion by offering economic, educational and medical programs in difficult and impoverished situations. Double Harvest is about “Sowing Seeds of Life” for this life and the next. “Man does not live on bread alone.” (Luke 4:4)

In Haiti, these purposes are achieved through Operation Double Harvest, a project that includes a large agricultural project, an academic/vocational school, a medical/surgical clinic, and an associated but independent church.
