Homes for Haiti
 |

| A Haitian House |
Typical House at the Fishing Village |
Over half the Haitian people live in wretched, ramshackle shelters of mud, straw and tin. Dirt floors, leaking roofs, infested with vermin; the conditions are deplorable and unsanitary, contributing to a host of health issues plaguing the country. For the villages surrounding DOUBLE HARVEST we have started an “Adopt a Home” program for the Homes for Haiti project.
- The local village leaders help to identify those in greatest need to be recipients of a new home.
- Local building materials of concrete and cement blocks are used to build a 350 square foot single home. Reinforced concrete foundations, pillars, floor and roof provide safe shelter able to withstand the hurricanes of the Caribbean.
- Haitian construction workers are trained and paid to build the homes.
- The cost of building materials and construction of a single family home is $5,000.00.
- Duplexes are the preferred construction when “lot” sizes are large enough. The cost of a duplex is $9,000.
You can make the fervent desire of a mother for better living conditions for her family become a reality with the “Adopt a Home” program

Three Finished Homes |
DOUBLE HARVEST has built numerous homes in the villages around its farm and clinic. All of our homes came through the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010 unscathed. The collapse and damage in the local villages is unimaginable and what was bad got even worse. We are embarking on a major and sustained building program of homes in the local villages. We have trained Haitian workers in earthquake resistant construction methods using reinforced concrete and proper concrete mixing techniques. Regular inspections take place throughout the construction period. We have received generous donations to rebuild 160 homes and thank you all for your outpouring of concern and care. But there are thousands in need of permanent shelter, on their behalf, please adopt a family and put a “roof over their head”.
