Since 1988 DOUBLE HARVEST has operated a medical clinic providing health care for the students, workers and local villagers around the project. Continued increases in students, workers and people coming from far and wide for the high quality of treatment administered by the staff necessitated an expansion of the clinic. It was decided to construct a new building with enhanced medical capabilities and ample space to accommodate the increased flow of patients.

DOUBLE HARVEST board members, family, friends and business associates teamed up to finance and construct one of the most modern and well equipped medical/surgical clinics in Haiti. The new facility became operational in 2004. After the devastating earthquake in January, 2010 and the increase in patients, as well as a partnership with an Eye Care ministry, an addition was completed in 2012. The bottom level provides a new intake area, more exam rooms, and space for a larger laboratory and storage. Additional accommodations for mission teams comprise the upper level.

The main level includes a large covered waiting area, consultation rooms, administration offices, a laboratory, a pharmacy and a dental suite. The surgical wing has two well equipped operating rooms, X-ray equipment, a sterilization room, a nurse’s station, supply rooms and a twelve bed recovery ward.

The second floor is designed to house visiting surgical teams. Six bedrooms with bathrooms, two fully equipped kitchens with ample dining space and a lounge area provide comfortable living conditions for the medical teams.

The clinic is staffed with a resident doctor, nurses, aides, lab technicians, administrative personnel, dentist and dental assistant who provide excellent medical care for the students, teachers, farm workers and patients from the surrounding communities. A regular rotation of volunteer surgical teams come from the United States to do major operations and specialized surgeries scheduled by the clinic’s medical staff. The volunteer medical groups average 60 to 70 operations during their rotation at the clinic. It is difficult to express the value and blessing the visiting teams provide for our patients, many the poorest of the poor, who otherwise would go untreated and die.

DOUBLE HARVEST has started an “Adopt a Patient” program for those who would like to help in covering the operating cost of running the clinic. Direct costs per patient/visit to the clinic is about $10.00; we charge a nominal fee of $1.00 to give value to their care and the difference is met through DOUBLE HARVEST’S contributions. You can help by “adopting” a patient or patients by contributing $10 - $20 - $30 per month to cover the cost of patient care.
